Species

The leafcutter ant, Atta sp, also called a parasol ant from South America. This species is best known worldwide for the fungus they cultivate and the large amounts of leaves they need for it.

Due to this unique behavior, they are extremely suitable for (large) zoos, specific museums and pet stores.

Nutrition

This species lives off a fungus. To create this fungus, the ants use various leaves. The colonies can only be picked up in our showroom, where we also provide advice on nutrition.

Suitable for

The ant colony is only suitable if you have knowledge and experience with keeping ants. We also expect to be able to offer an Ant Farm specifically for this species by early 2020.

These colonies are also perfectly manageable for hobbyists, as they grow to several thousand specimens (unlike Atta colonies which can reach enormous numbers (up to hundreds of thousands) of ants).

After years of testing, we have succeeded. With this beautiful cylinder set, you can successfully care for a leaf-cutter ant colony and guide its development. We dare to finally offer this set as the ultimate product for keeping leaf-cutter ants. Parasol ants are incredible to observe and keep as a hobbyist.

Sizes:
The set consists of three cylinders with a diameter of 20 cm and a height of 30 cm. Ideal for the vertical position in which leaf-cutters build their fungus. The set is expandable with cylinders of the same size, but we also have them available in larger sizes: 25 x 40 cm and even 40 cm diameter and 60 cm high.

Description:
This enormously comprehensive complete set is suitable for all species of leaf-cutter ants. In addition to the optimally adapted formicarium, the set also contains the appropriate accessories for keeping these ants. The cylinders allow comfortable handling during feeding and cleaning. Due to the large holes (32 mm) and tubes, the ants can not only be observed well, but the animals can also transport large pieces of leaf. The stainless steel grid inserts ensure good ventilation and are robust against mechanical shocks. Even large colonies of leaf-cutter ants, who are very fond of cutting, cannot penetrate them. The sturdy tube connections are also absolutely resistant to the force of these ants' jaws! ;-)

Important:
The part with plaster at the bottom is intended to place the fungus in. How to guide the care and development of the ants from here, we will explain in a personal conversation when you pick up the set from us and choose the leaf-cutter ant colony.

The thermo-hygrometer in the system gives you the most important guidance for proper care (temperature around 26 degrees and humidity between 90 and 100%).
