Gele weidemier (Lasius flavus)

Yellow Meadow Ant Colony (Lasius flavus)

Lasius flavus, also known as the yellow meadow ant, is a calm European ant species that primarily lives underground. Our ant colonies consist of a queen, brood, and worker ants, allowing you to observe the full development of the colony in an ant farm. This species is suitable for sand, plaster, and acrylic nests.

Lasius flavus colonies generally grow slowly and remain relatively compact, making them ideal for those who patiently wish to observe the hidden life of ants. These ants spend most of their time underground, where they build extensive tunnels and chambers.

Due to their calm nature and modest growth, yellow meadow ants are very suitable for beginners, schools, and educational projects. Unlike faster and more active species like Messor barbarus, the focus with Lasius flavus is less on surface activity and more on the subtle, underground behavior of the colony.
