OUR MISSION

Ants are heroes! Ants as pets are fantastic. It is our mission to introduce these special animals to the widest possible audience and to boost the hobby of keeping them as pets worldwide!


OUR STORY

In 2009, Jan-Peter Oudenampsen started keeping ants as pets. This hobby quickly got out of hand, and now with Ant's Kingdom, we work full-time on promoting ants as pets and on creating and selling suitable products through the webshop Mierenboerderij.nl.


OUR APPROACH

With unique Ant Farms, we make the story of ants visible. Where in nature, much happens underground, you can now observe an ant colony with queen and workers up close in your living room!


OUR PHILOSOPHY

We want to make this hobby accessible to everyone. Service is our top priority; we guarantee live arrival and, on top of that, a 2-week warranty on the life of a queen ant.

 

Ants are amazing; they dedicate themselves unreservedly to their colony. They ensure everyone has enough to eat by sharing everything. They also prioritize the young (larvae) and protect the queen and other ants with their own lives. Their lives are entirely based on cooperation and continuous communication. We humans can still learn a lot from this. Be amazed by these intelligent animals and follow the development of a colony, from a queen and a few workers to a mature colony with thousands of ants, over a few years. Ants are heroes!

Jan-Peter
In 2009, I (Jan-Peter Oudenampsen) started keeping ants as pets. This hobby quickly got out of hand, and now I work full-time on promoting ants as pets and on creating and selling suitable products through the webshop Mierenboerderij.nl.

I give workshops at schools and companies and have appeared in various TV programs, such as 'Melk en honing' (EO), 'Beestengeluk' (SBS6), 'EditieNL' (RTL), and the educational children's program 'Huisje Boompje Beestje' (NTR). 'Proefkonijnen' (BNN), 'Gelderse Koppen'. The ant scenes in the cinema films 'Holland, natuur in de delta' and 'De wilde Veluwe' were also created with me!

Together with several biologists, researchers, and specialists, I am affiliated with the MWG (the ant working group in the Netherlands), which is dedicated to research into and the welfare of ants in the Netherlands.

In our business premises, we now keep thousands of ant colonies. You are always welcome by appointment at our location in Apeldoorn! I now work together with the following great (professional) people:

My name is Tobias, and I've been involved with this amazing company for quite a few years now. It's cool to see how the company has developed over these years.

Besides photos and videos, I manage social media, among other things, and participate in all aspects of the business. I especially enjoy and find it challenging to work on the commercial side.
As we jokingly say: Mierenboerderij, always something to do!

I'm Ruben and I've been working at Mierenboerderij since 2017. Thanks to Jan-Peter, I've discovered that ants are heroes! As humans, we can still learn a lot from their fascinating way of life.

I spend a lot of time taking care of the ants to ensure they lack nothing. I'm also here to answer your questions and prepare your orders.

I wish you a lot of fun browsing the site for all the interesting animals, products, and of course, especially the ants!

 
Rene I am René. I have been working for Ant's Kingdom since September 2016 and am mainly responsible for the Master Series, which I assemble for Ant's Kingdom. I find it incredibly fun to see how Ant's Kingdom manages to captivate you with ants.

I also keep ants myself, but outdoors in my garden... so slightly different... ;-)

It's wonderful to see and hear how JP conveys his passion. His enthusiasm is simply infectious and makes it increasingly fun to create something new every time. I wish you a lot of fun with your ants; you have something valuable that you can enjoy for a very long time.
