Ant colony Myrmica rubra 2 gyne 150+
Species
The Myrmica rubra is also known as the common red stinging ant. A well-known ant from our own soil! Our ant colonies consist of a queen along with brood and a number of workers. This number depends on the number of eggs that have developed into ants (egg-larva-pupa-ant). This colony already contains 150+ workers.
The colonies are polygynous, meaning that multiple gynes, queens, can occur in one nest (not necessarily). This colony has 2 gynes, which are only slightly larger than regular workers.
Please note, these ants have a very clear seasonal division, so it can happen that a colony has little (or even no) brood in the autumn and winter period. This will return at higher temperatures in the spring!
Please note, deviating warranty provision
Myrmica rubra is a nice species to keep, but clearly more difficult than, for example, Lasius niger or Messor barbarus. We guarantee the live arrival of the queen and ants, but we cannot go further than that. A Myrmica rubra colony can die out within a few days under incorrect (especially too dry) conditions. Therefore, the lifespan clearly depends on the way of housing and care. If something is already wrong upon receipt, that is of course our responsibility and at our risk. This must be reported to us within 24 hours (after receipt) with clear photos. If you have doubts about the care and purchase of a Myrmica colony, please contact us first for advice!
Suitable for
The ant colony is intended for sand and plaster ant farms. Sand is preferred. We also recommend using an arena. The ants can get their food there and dispose of waste. Many products have an integrated arena. With Myrmica, this arena is extremely important. They must always be able to obtain fresh/moist food here.
If you are looking for ants for a gel ant farm, we recommend the ant family.
Packaging and shipping
The colony is in a test tube with a cotton wool behind it to keep the nest tube partly moist. Due to its size, the colony cannot stay in this tube for too long without care (maximum a few days after receipt). We guarantee the life of the queen upon arrival. The ant colonies are safely packaged and shipped in foil.

| Remarks: | Myrmica rubra is an interesting species. They develop quickly and can also move quickly. Our experience is that it is important to keep part of the nest really well moist. Dehydration is a great danger. The red stinging ant has a stinger and can therefore sting. This the ant only does in case of danger (e.g. entrapment or intrusion into the nest. The sting is not dangerous and feels similar to stinging nettles. For the more serious ant keeper, a little excitement in this hobby is no problem, right?! ;-) |
