Breeding Kit with PSG1 Indian Stick Insect Eggs
PSG1 Egg Set
Order your breeding kit here, which includes a breeding container and approximately 20 Indian stick insect eggs. The eggs can be kept in the breeding container on a moist paper towel (rewetting once a week is sufficient).
The eggs are, on average, a few weeks old. We ship eggs of various ages mixed together so that, under normal circumstances, there's always something to see. Some are expected to hatch within a few weeks to a few months, with the rest hatching within six months at the latest. As care and conditions are important for the eggs to hatch, we cannot guarantee hatching success.
General Information
Indian Stick Insect eggs for sale. The Indian stick insect is also known as the laboratory stick insect and is the most commonly kept stick insect species worldwide. The species has also been assigned a PSG number, PSG 1. Its official Latin name is Carausius morosus.
Most people also start with this species when they first begin keeping stick insects. They are very easy to keep and eat readily available food, namely ivy.
Movement and Behavior
An Indian stick insect is a calm animal. As most stick insects are nocturnal, they won't show much movement during the day. However, in the evening, you can observe them moving and eating. They cannot bite, scratch, or secrete venom and are easy to handle. They also cannot jump or fly.
Diet
This species eats many types of leaves. They are known for eating ivy. They can live on all types of ivy and do not need other leaves to be healthy. You can also feed them many other leaves, such as blackberry, raspberry, oak, rose, hazel, and privet leaves. Blackberry leaves and ivy can always be found in winter.
Plants from stores are sprayed with insecticides! Your stick insects will die immediately if they eat these.
Environmental Requirements
The temperature can range between 18 °C and 30 °C. Room temperature is therefore perfectly fine for these animals.
The stick insect does not have high humidity requirements; misting the enclosure twice a week as a basic measure is sufficient. Watch out for mold development. They should also have some drinking water.
As with all stick insect species, this species requires an enclosure at least 3 times the length of the animal in height and at least 2 times the length of the animal in width. For an adult female, this means an enclosure of at least 24 cm high and 16 cm wide.
Reproduction
This species is parthenogenetic in culture. This means that in captivity, there are only females, and the eggs they lay will still hatch without a male being present. Only females will emerge from these eggs.
When the females are mature, they will start laying eggs. The eggs are round and brown and have a small cap from which the nymph will later emerge. They simply drop them on the ground. The eggs hatch after a few months to half a year.
Our Own Breeding
All our eggs come from our own breeding and are well-cared for before shipment.
Fruit Fly Breeding Kit
Create your own fruit fly culture
With this kit, you can set up your own fruit fly culture. Suitable for feeding your ants, praying mantises, poison dart frogs, and other animals. Please note: use immediately upon receipt, as the included fruit flies have a short lifespan.

Ant Colony Lasius flavus 10+
Species
The Lasius flavus colony is also known as the yellow meadow ant, a common ant in our country. Our ant colonies consist of a queen along with brood and a number of workers. This number depends on the number of eggs that have developed into ants (egg-larva-pupa-ant). This colony already contains at least 10 workers, and these have been produced by the fertilized queen ant herself.
Suitable for
The ant colony is intended for acrylic, plaster, and sand ant farms. We also recommend using an arena. The ants can get their food there and dispose of waste. Many products have an integrated arena. For the initial period, the test tube has sufficient space for the ant colony. With various Ant Farms, you will find this ant colony available in a special combination price.
If you are looking for ants for a gel ant farm, we recommend the ant family.
Packaging and shipping
The photo shows how the product is actually delivered by us. The colony is in a test tube with a cotton ball behind it providing water to keep part of the nest tube moist. The colony can remain in this tube for up to a few weeks without care (after receipt). We also guarantee the life of the queen for that long. If the queen does not arrive alive or dies within a few weeks, we will provide a replacement colony.

Explanation
We can well imagine that making a choice is difficult when seeing all the possibilities for keeping ants as pets and all available (care) products. That's why we have put together a special set that guarantees you the best start you can make; this set is super complete!
A sleekly designed plaster Ant Farm (our largest) forms the heart of this setup. A fully handmade robust plaster nest, very solidly assembled.
The ant farm is specially designed with a unique moisture reservoir. From the center of the nest, you regulate the humidity with the included syringe. The chambers in the middle around the moisture reservoir are shallow (8mm), so you can observe the center of your colony well. The chambers on the outside are deeper (12mm), so the workers can beautifully store their seeds and food supplies there. All chambers and passages are connected. Be amazed at how the ants use and arrange this space and experience for yourself whether they stick to our 'script'!
On both sides, an opening has been made to connect the Ant Farm to the nest tube with the colony and the arena.
You understand that we can't help but call this the 'Mega Messor set'. We have designed these ant farms based on our years of experience in breeding and caring for ant colonies. Because they are handmade nests, the color scheme and material may vary slightly per product. The photos provide a clear picture.

Mega Ant Farm Gel
Let the ants do their work and watch a complete structure emerge! The ant farm gel is a high-tech habitat for ants. It is based on the technology NASA used to study life in a weightless environment. It is completely self-sustaining; the beautiful transparent gel serves as food, moisture, and shelter for the ants. The only thing you need to add to your ant farm (20 x 20 x 3 cm) are the ants themselves.
Included:
- Ant farm gel
- Magnifying glass
- Manual and booklet
How Mega Ant Farm Gel Works
How long do ants live in the Gel Ant Farm?
Ants live for a few months to a year. So, their age can vary. The worker ants we supply should last several weeks to a few months and are guaranteed to dig in the gel. If all ants die within the first two weeks, we will send replacements for free.
How long does the gel last?
The ant farm gel is a complete food source for the ants. Since ants do not eat much and even dig up and reuse waste from the gel, it is more than sufficient for an ant family. We also have gel refills available in various colors to start anew.
Maintenance & Care
Maintenance and care are simple:
- No additional feeding is necessary.
- Open the lid slightly a few times a week for some fresh air.
- Remove condensation and waste if possible.
Ants
This offer does not include ants; we advise choosing an ant family. With the product, you will receive a coupon to order an ant family at a discount. These are worker ants from Southern Europe that create an underground system of tunnels and chambers in nature. The ants are then sent in a test tube. They can remain in this tube for up to about a week before being placed in the Ant Farm. Instructions on how to place the ants are explained in the booklet that comes with your Ant Farm gel.
Then let yourself be surprised by these extraordinary animals that teach us what true teamwork is!
Seed mix
This is a mix of various grass seed types (over 20) and bird seed types. The mix is suitable for all seed-collecting ant species, including those with the scientific names Pheidole and Messor. The Messor ant is also called the harvester ant.
The mix has been put together by us and is also used for our own colonies. A budding colony (up to 30 ants) will have enough of this quantity for at least a year.
Messor barbarus harvester ant colony 10+
Species
The Messor barbarus ant is also known as the harvester ant. They collect (grass) seeds. They chew these seeds finely and mix them with moisture. In this way, they 'harvest' the seeds into a type of ant bread, which serves as food. Our ant colonies consist of a queen along with brood and a number of workers. This number depends on the number of eggs that have developed into ants (egg-larva-pupa-ant). This colony already contains at least 10 workers, and the workers have thus been produced by the queen ant herself.
Nutrition
The nutrition set above, including seeds, is a complete diet for this species. The set consists of sugar water, honeydew, fruit flies, and a starter set of seeds. The starter set of seeds is sufficient for the first year.
Suitable for
The ant colony is intended for acrylic, plaster, and sand ant farms. We also recommend using an arena. The ants can get their food there and dispose of waste. Many products have an integrated arena. You will find this ant colony at a special combined price with various Ant Farms.
If you are looking for ants for a gel ant farm, we recommend the ant family.
Packaging and shipping
The photo shows how the product is actually delivered by us. The colony is in a test tube with a cotton ball at the back providing water to keep the nest tube partly moist. The colony can stay in this tube for up to a few weeks without care (after receipt). We also guarantee the life of the queen for that long. If the queen does not arrive alive or dies within a few weeks, we will provide a replacement colony.
Specifications and information
| Scientific name | Messor barbarus |
| Dutch name | The harvester ant |
| Difficulty level | 1. Beginner |

| Nest type: | Sand nests, relatively deep. Very wide, often under grass. |
| Temperature: | Room temperature, 15-30 degrees |
| Hibernation: | No, but winter rest. Our advice: keep them slightly cooler in winter, around 15 degrees. For example, in a cellar, cooler attic, or shed. November-February Our experience: even in winter at room temperature these ant colonies continue to develop well. |
| Nutrition: | Sugar or honey water and small insects: Our advice for smaller colonies: fruit flies. Main food: various seeds (grass seeds, birdseed, dandelion seeds, etc...) |
| Humidity: | Simple. Advice: Keep part of the nest slightly moist This species prefers drier conditions than, for example, Lasius niger and Myrmica rubra. |
| Distribution area: | (Southern) Europe and (North) Africa |
| Ant Farm recommendation: | Acrylic, Plaster, or Sand including the use of an Arena area |
| Remarks: | - Messor barbarus is a common ant species in Southern Europe. You can find them there in gardens, parks, and forest areas. With some patience, you can grow and observe them well in an Ant Farm. They are particularly interesting because of their diet (the seeds). They need space to store the seeds, and therefore they quickly use more nest space than other ant species. - Mediors and Majors also occur in larger colonies. Larger ants that have the task of protecting (soldiers). - Messor colonies develop on average faster than most species from the Netherlands. In Ant Farms, they grow into colonies of hundreds or a few thousand ants. If you want it larger, you can always connect additional enclosures. - Messor barbarus is our favorite ant species ;-) |
Messor barbarus harvester ant colony 100+
Species
The Messor barbarus ant is also called the harvester ant. They collect (grass) seeds. They chew these seeds finely and mix them with moisture. In this way, they 'harvest' the seeds into a kind of ant bread, which serves as food. Our ant colonies consist of a queen along with brood and a number of workers. This number depends on the number of eggs that have developed into ants (egg-larva-pupa-ant). This colony already contains 100 or more workers, and these workers have been produced by the queen ant herself.
The ants can get their food and dispose of waste there. Many products have an integrated arena. You can find this ant colony in a special combination price offer with various ant farms.
If you are looking for ants for a gel ant farm, we recommend the ant family.
Packaging and shipping
The photo shows how the product is actually delivered by us. The colony is in a test tube with a cotton wool stopper behind which provides water to keep the nest tube partially moist. The colony can remain in this tube for a few weeks without care (after receipt). We also guarantee the life of the queen for that long. If the queen does not arrive alive or dies within a few weeks, we will provide a replacement colony.

Ant's Kingdom Asteroid (Universe Collection)
The intelligence of ants is from another planet, extraterrestrial! We still only understand a small part of how ants can cooperate so efficiently. The Universe Collection was created to illustrate this supernatural phenomenon. Build your own universe now, starting with this Asteroid and slowly expanding to a complete system!
This ant farm is perfectly suited for both small and medium-sized colonies of species such as Lasius, Myrmica, Pheidole, Messor, and Formica.
These nests are equipped with a foam part, which keeps the nest moist for about 1 week. To moisten the nest, you can wet this foam (syringe included). It absorbs and distributes moisture without the risk of flooding chambers and tunnels. The foam must therefore remain moist so that the ants find a good environment in this nest.
The system is very practical with this unique water supply. Even cleaning the complete Ant Farm is possible. You first connect another enclosure or nest tube to which the ants move, and then the acrylic nest can be easily unscrewed and rinsed with water.
The nest is easy to expand through the 10 mm opening on the outside. Other enclosures can be connected with hoses.
Ant Colony
Almost all ant colonies can be kept in this nest. Choose a colony above for a special price.
Feeding Set
The diet of a Lasius ant colony consists of a combination of sugar water, honeydew, and fruit flies, and for a Messor colony, seeds are added. A feeding set can be ordered above.
Nest Specifications
Length: 15cm
Width: 10cm
Thickness: 6mm inside, 12mm outside
Number of connection options: 2
Number of chambers: 10
Number of ants: suitable for up to 200 ants for most species
Humidification system by foam
Arena, outdoor enclosure included: Can be selected
Duration of nest moisture: 1 week, depending on the number of ants and the ambient temperature.
We supply this Ant Farm including a digital (download) manual and the booklet 'Ants are heroes'. The instructions therein regarding care and connection must be followed. The printed version of the booklet can be ordered here: https://www.mierenboerderij.nl/boekje-mieren-zijn-helden.html
